I love lemons. And I love crafts. So this photo is really tickling me. It’s from a Wired slideshow about Terry Border, wire object enthusiast and photographer. He has a blog called Bent Objects. Here’s what Wired said about him:

Instead of storyboarding or sketching his scenes out, Border said the best ones just come to him. Take Mail Order Bride, for example. He used to work as a baker in a grocery store and one day while leaving work he passed by a display of real lemons sitting next to a box of plastic lemons. As he walked by he thought, if those lemons were alive, “how would they associate with each other?” The plastic lemons appeared almost doll-like next to the real ones, prompting him to think about humans and their dolls. The final shot gives an idea of his thought process.

While a lot of his scenes rely on word play to complete the loop, Border actually tries to stay away from being too clever with his titles because he wants it to appeal to a broader audience. His more R-rated images are usually get published on a different blog called Really Bent.

Erotic DIY, the new frontier.

Thx to Staton Piercey for this link.

Last week I got invited to a lovely little craft night. When I walked into my friend-of-a-friend’s charming Little Italy apartment (which wasn’t very little, come to think of it), I found a counter full of pots and the best selection of oils you’ve ever seen (Found at Whole Foods. No really, they are there, you just always look past them).

So how do you make body scrub? Well, really, all you need is something creamy and something scrubby. Hello sugar and hello oil. You need about twice as much of the scrubby as you need of the oily (or even more), so get more sugar than you think you need. Once you have a thick base of sugar and oil, you can add all sorts of fun things like essential oils (we had tangerine and vanilla) or fruit rinds or a bit of steeped tea for color.

You’ll also need cute jars to scoop things into (I recycled some old Trader Joe’s Corn and Chili Salsa, which is insanely delicious). Some pics of our fun wine-fueled mixing party:

I ended up with two scrubs:
1. Double-layered scrub with coconut-almond-hisbiscus-passionfruit tea on the bottom and almond-vanilla on the top. Yes, it’s a mouth full, get over it.
2. Walnut and tangerine. Yes, this one sounds much less fancy, but it smells twice as nice.

This combo sounds fun, too:
1 cup organic cane sugar
1/3 cup celtic sea salt
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
2-3 tablespoons almond oil
1 tablespoon Vitamin E
Lavender Essential Oil
(From here.)

Now I just need a set of these little wooden scoops from Etsy shop Clark Woodworks.

I’m so effing excited to exfoliate. You don’t even know.

I’m a farmer from District 9. I was for sure certain I lived in the Capitol and had green skin and rose tattoos. Maybe I’m tougher than I thought. Or maybe this placement software is bogus. No, no, that can’t be it.
